Requirements – Mandatory

  • Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III, IV 
  • Tertiary Degree in disability or community services
  • Experience working with people with an acquired brain injury: e.g trauma or stroke
  • Demonstrated written and spoken communication skills
  • Sensitivity to and experience working with people from CALD backgrounds
  • Comprehensively insured motor vehicle + current drivers’ license
  • NDISWC ID number must be provided
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Quality, Safety & You Training Certificate
  • Must be fully vaccinated as per NSW Health Regulations
  • Mobile smart phone ( Android or IOS Compatible)
  • Current First aid certificate (HLTAID011)
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required, minimum 20 hours per week
  • The ability to speak Vietnamese, Greek or Arabic is desirable

Responsibilities as a Community Support Worker?

  • Meet the NDIS practice standards.
  • Assist Participants to achieve their chosen life goals and desired personal outcomes.
  • Provide interpersonal support to assist Participants to make informed decisions 
  • Enhance participation in the community, and maximise independence
  • Liaise with Participant Families/Carers/Advocates of choice
  • Provide feedback to Senior staff in relation to Participant progress
  • Report and escalate concerns to Senior staff in a timely and effective manner

Duties as a Community Support Worker?

  • Assist with tasks of daily living in Participants home e.g. meal preparation, daily routine, shopping, light domestic tasks
  • Provide 1:1 support in the Community
  • Drive Participants to scheduled appointments/centre based and community based activities
  • Assist with mobility where required : e.g. car transfers, access and usage of portable mobility equipment such as rollators and lightweight wheelchairs
  • Attend medical appointments and provide thorough reports to Service Coordinators
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to reinforce learning e.g. time organisation, basic financial management, making appointments, dealing with minor crisis e.g. demands from third parties including government agencies, potential scammers or situations that cause stress or anxiety to the participant. 
  • Identify issues of concern and de-escalate situations through the use of active listening, redirection, reassurance and modeling appropriate behaviour. 

Terms of Business – Your benefits

  • Salary: SCHADS AWARD Social and Community Service Level 2
  • Great Casual Rates $38.55 + per hour + travel reimbursement
  • Working with current generation technology e.g. iPad for use with daily supports   
  • Rosters are published 4-6 months in advance
